Since 1995, Michael has been involved with design and installation of the main studios at EMI Abbey Road, leading
projects to completely rebuild the Penthouse mixing suite in 1996, rebuild Studio 3 in 2000 a refit of the
Penthouse in 2006 to incorporate a new console and supplying many key items in the refurbishment of Studio 1 in 2004.
Close collaboration with the Engineers gave rise to Michael developing the cable technology for use in these installations. These high performance cables are now used throughout the professional audio industry. |

EMI Abbey Road is famed for its high standards in audio production for classical music, pop, rock, and has become a world leader in film soundtrack and music production. As an icon of all that is British and London, Abbey Road encapsulates the spirit of generations of great masters and whilst offering unparalleled production facilities in a modern setting with absolute best in technology. The installation of these studios demanded the very best in cable technology available along with pristine presentation. During the course of the work, investigation and design led to Michael Whiteside of Studio Connections Limited developing some very high performance cable being developed in order to provide an infrastructure that at least matched the advance performance and standards of the equipment being used and the level of production at the studio. A practical side of work was that studio time is very precious, therefore all these installations had to be carried out within a very tight time frame. This was achieved by preparing and prefabricating complete systems as modular units which could be pre-assembled and tested of site. This technique took much planning but was highly successful and enabled the complete rebuild of the penthouse from bare brick walls to being fully operational in only three weeks. Michael has incorporated the technical advances made during the development of the cables for Abbey Road into his designs for the highly regarded Studio Connections audiophile cables and the professional audio brand 'Kelsey', which have become an industry standard.
